SUMMARY OF ACHIEVEMENTS OVER THE PAST 10 YEARS AND THE MAIN AREAS OF FOCUS
- Cardia bypass and myocardial protection in all elective and emergency open-heart cardiac surgeries (heart transplantation included), involving online monitoring of blood gas and acid-base status, cerebral oximetry, myocardial pH management, hemostasis system management;
- Installation of implantable artificial ventricles and constant management of their work, that is, the replacement of the pumping function of the patient's own heart for a long-term period in patients with terminal heart failure;
- Implementation of various methods of mechanical circulation support (intraaortic balloon counterpulsation, mechanical bypasses of the left and right ventricles) in patients with heart failure, resistant to medication therapy;
- Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (replacement of heart and lung function in cardiac and cardiopulmonary insufficiency up to 1 month);
- Emergency collection, flushing of form elements and high-speed machine autotransfusion of blood in case of massive blood loss;
- Renal and hepatic replacement therapy (ultrahemodiafiltration, hemo- and plasmadsorption) in cardiac patients with multiple organ failure;
- Plasmapheresis and other methods of gravitational blood surgery in cardiac surgery patients;
- Obtaining and using platelet-rich plasma and autologous platelet gel to accelerate reparative processes in bone tissue;
- Highly selective immunosorption of immunoglobulins G3 for treatment of patients with terminal CH in DCM and acute myocarditis.
- Selective sorption of low and very low density lipoproteins in hypercholesterolemia.
All of the above refers to complex and high technology. Unique techniques have been developed, mastered and applied in each area.
The department is equipped with more than 100 heart-lung machines of high complexity.
The work of the department has been awarded prizes and titles. The work on myocardial protection during heart surgeries was awarded a prize and a diploma of the National Academy of Sciences of Belarus "For the best scientific research work". The award in connection with the first heart transplantation in the Republic of Belarus, including the title of the Excellent Healthcare Doctor was given to the doctor of the department.
According to the patent №6174 "Method of cardioprotection at surgical operations in conditions of extracorporeal circulation" the production of cardioplegic solutions by Nesvizh plant of medical preparations is mastered.
Many scientific and research works and innovation projects are carried out on the basis of the department; the experimental model of the axial artificial ventricle of heart has been developed. More than 200 scientific works have been published, including 4 monographs, 2 rationalization proposals, 1 patent. Training of doctors, interns, clinical residents from Belarus, Russia, Kazakhstan and Ukraine is conducted in the department. The staff of the department renders consulting and therapeutic assistance to other medical preventive institutions of the Republic of Belarus, actively participate in scientific projects, at domestic and international conferences and congresses. The department also takes part in multicenter international researches.
