On September 7, 2018, the 2nd Byelorussian-Russian Summit on Arterial Hypertension was held.

The Summit presents new European recommendations on arterial hypertension 2018, current strategies for treating arterial hypertension.



Cardiologists of Russia and Belarus discussed the results of the STEPS study, the prospects for combination therapy in the treatment of arterial hypertension.

Russia was represented by employees of the National Medical Research Center of Cardiology of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation.


At the Summit, a cooperation agreement was concluded between the Medical Association «Eurasian Association of Cardiologists» and the Belarusian Scientific Society of Cardiology.


The parties expressed interest in long-term cooperation, as well as mutual support in the field of advanced training of practitioners in the Eurasian region, the introduction of modern approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of socially significant diseases of the cardiovascular system, the organization and improvement of the quality of medical care to the population, and joint research.

With the report «European recommendations on arterial hypertension 2018: what are the main changes?» The Deputy Director General, Director of the Institute of Clinical Cardiology named after A.L. Myasnikova FSBI «NMIC of Cardiology» of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation, academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences, professor, doctor of medical sciences Chazova Irina Evgenievna.


The summit is divided into three sessions.

The first session is devoted to the classification of drugs used in combination antihypertensive therapy.

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Cardiology and Internal Diseases of the Belarusian State Medical University, Natalia Pavlovna Mitkovskaya, made a presentation «Calcium channel blockers are an important component of antihypertensive therapy.»


A report on the RAAS blockers: a view from the standpoint of evidence-based medicine was delivered by Doctor of Medical Sciences Karpov Yury Alexandrovich, Vice-President of the Russian-Caucasian Regional Branch, First Deputy General Director, Deputy General Director for Science of the FSCU RNPC.

During the second session, the specialists discussed the principles of the new European recommendations in real clinical practice.

A report on the variability of blood pressure and its clinical significance was made by a professor at the Department of Faculty Therapy and Occupational Diseases of the Moscow State Medical University. A.I. Evdokimova, Doctor of Medicine Ostroumova Olga Dmitrievna.

Chairman of the Board of the Belarusian League for Combating Arterial Hypertension, Head of the Cardiotherapy Department No. 2 of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center Cardiology, Candidate of Medical Sciences Lazareva Irina Valentinovna made a presentation on «What is behind the diagnosis: uncontrolled hypertension in real practice».

At the third session, new possibilities of combination therapy were considered.

Doctor of Medical Sciences, Head of the Laboratory of Chronic Ischemic Heart Disease of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center Cardiology Olga Alexandrovna Sudzhaeva told about the first fixed combination of beta-blockers and ACE inhibitors.
